About Salary Explorer
What this is
Salary Explorer publishes the wage figures that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics already releases, in a form that is easier to read than the original spreadsheets. The wages themselves are exactly as BLS published them — nothing is modelled or re-estimated here. One figure is ours: pay adjusted for what things cost locally, worked out from Bureau of Economic Analysis regional price levels. It is labelled wherever it appears, and the arithmetic is set out on the methodology page.
Why it exists
The Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics survey covers around 830 occupations across every state and metropolitan area, and publishes it as workbooks that most people will never open. The data is public and paid for by taxpayers; this site makes one occupation in one place answerable in a single page.
Who runs it
An independent one-person project, not a company, not a recruiter, and not affiliated with any government agency. There is no sales team and nothing is gated.
How it is funded
Advertising, and affiliate links where a service is genuinely relevant. Neither influences which figures are shown: the numbers are whatever BLS published, and no advertiser can change them. Where a link earns a commission it is disclosed.
What it is not
It is not a salary negotiation tool, not a job board, and not a substitute for professional advice. Survey estimates describe groups of workers, not individuals, and a median says nothing about what any particular person will be offered.
